Women's Tennis Caps Weekend at Baylor Invitational

Competition at ITA Women's All-Americans continues
WACO, Texas – The Illinois women's tennis team ended its three-day stay at the Baylor Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Shivani Ingle picked up three singles wins to lead the team, defeating Keegan McCain of UTSA, Claire Slaughter of Arkansas and fellow teammate Emily Casati, before falling to Houston's Ndindi Ndunda in the finals of the "Green" singles main draw.
Casati downed Auburn's Lindsay Song 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of the "Green" singles main draw and went on to defeat Texas' Marta Perez-Mur 7-5, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. After picking up two wins, the Deerfield, Ill., native fell to Ingle in the semifinals round.
Madeleine Gandawidjaja advanced to the finals bracket of the "Green" singles draw consolation after picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win in the quarterfinals over Myrna Olaya of Arkansas and a 6-3, 6-3 semifinals win against Margarita Timakova of Iowa State. Gandawidjaja was defeated by Addy Guevara of TCU 6-2, 6-1 in the finals round.
Emilee Duong and Ashley Yeah each picked up a win in the "Gold" singles main draw, and Josie Frazier earned a pair of wins in the "Gold" singles draw consolation.
Gandawidjaja and Ingle paired up for the second round of doubles play after receiving a first-round bye but were downed 6-1 by Maggie Cubitt and Anna Loughlan of LSU. Duong and Frazier were the other duo that received a first-round bye that fell to Phonexay Chitdara and Sophie Gerits of Houston. Casati and Yeah were defeated by Kentucky's Carla Girbau and Diana Tkachenko in the first round of doubles competition.
The Fighting Illini will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the 2019 ITA Midwest Regional in East Lansing, Mich.
ITA WOMEN'S ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz began competition in the pre-qualifying rounds of singles competition at the 2019 ITA Women's All-American Championships on Saturday, Oct. 5. Through Sunday, Oct. 6.
Belaya advanced to the third round after defeating Hawaii's Satsuki Takamura 6-4, 7-5, in the first round, and Maragrita Skyrabina of Texas Tech 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, in the second round. The Melbourne, Fla., native came up short as Kansas State's Maria Linares, the second-seed in the tournament, defeated Belaya 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the third round.
The 11th-seeded Rabinowitz downed Memphis' Lina Hohnhold 6-2, 6-4 to advance in the bracket. In the second round, the Tenafly, N.J., native fell 6-1, 6-4 to opponent Marie Mattel of UCF.
Asuka Kawai and Rabinowitz will pair up for the qualifying round of doubles competition Monday, Oct. 7, while Kawai will start singles competition on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the main draw.
