ILLINOIS VS. THE FIELD 

The No. 19 Illinois volleyball team continues its homestand this weekend as Illinois hosts Michigan on Friday (November 1) in an FS1-broadcasted match at 7:30 p.m. CT, before taking on Michigan State on Saturday (November 2) at 7 p.m. CT in Huff Hall.

The Illini hold a 50-24 lead in the all-time series with the Wolverines, including a 29-6 record in Huff Hall. The Illini toughed out a five-set win over UM in last season's lone meeting in Champaign on October 19, 2018. 

The Illini also lead the series with the Spartans, 51-28, with a 25-9 mark in home matches. UI swept MSU in both matches a season ago, taking a 3-0 win in Champaign on October 20, before winning 3-1 in East Lansing on November 21. 

NCAA RPI RANKING

Illinois comes in at No. 36 in the latest NCAA RPI ranking after debuting in the first RPI of the season on October 14 ranked 22nd nationally. 

ILLINI CLOSING IN ON PROGRAM'S 1,000TH WIN

The Illinois volleyball program entered the 2019 season with an overall record of 989-558-7 (.639) in 45 seasons and with 10 wins so far in the 2019 campaign, the Illini are just one win from the historic 1,000th victory in program history with a 999-567-7 (.637) record. 

ILLINI ILLINI SWEEP BUCKEYES ON PINK NIGHT

Illinois had a triumphant return to Huff Hall following a three-match road swing, sweeping Ohio State in three sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) on Pink Night on Saturday (October 26).

The Illini were paced offensively by a pair of seniors as Jacqueline Quade turned in a match-high 13 kills on a .324 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs, while redshirt-senior Beth Prince registered her second-straight double-digit outing with 11 kills.

Redshirt-freshman Diana Brown directed the Illini to a .236 team attack clip while handing out 36 assists.

Defensively, O'Brien led with 14 digs, with sophomore Taylor Kuper adding 13 digs and freshman Kennedy Collins posting a match-high three blocks on the night.

LAST WEEK STANDOUTS

Illinois split its matches last week, falling in a tough five-setter with No. 8 Penn State (25-18, 26-24, 15-25, 28-30, 13-15) after taking a two-set lead in University Park on Wednesday (October 23) night, before rebounding with a 3-0  (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) sweep over Ohio State on Pink Night on Saturday (October 26).

Senior Jacqueline Quade totaled 31 kills on the week to pace the offense, including her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 18 kills and 15 digs at PSU and match-high 13 kills on a .324 hitting percentage against the Buckeyes. 

Redshirt-senior Beth Prince also notched back-to-back 11 kill outings, while redshirt-freshman handed out 84 assists for a 10.50 assists per set mark to go along with 22 digs. 

Defensively, junior Morgan O'Brien tallied 28 digs for a 3.50 average per set and also recorded her first-career double-double with 14 digs and a career-high 10 assists against the Nittany Lions, while sophomore Taylor Kuper added 23 digs on the week. 

ILLINI IN PROGRAM RECORD BOOK

With a .385 career hitting percentage in her two seasons as an Illini, senior Ashlyn Fleming ranks third all-time in progam history, sitting behind Illinois Hall of Famer Mary Eggers (1985-88) with a .421 attack clip and Kirstin Gleis (1992) with a .386 percentage. Fleming has registered 406 kills with 98 errors on 799 swings in 55 matches played. 

Joining her in the record book is classmate Jacqueline Quade, who's 4,290 attacks rank sixth all-time in program history. Quade also sits ninth in kills (1,626) and points (1,825.5). 

Junior Morgan O'Brien also ranks sixth in program history with a 3.29 digs per set mark in her three seasons. 

ILLINI RANKED NO. 19 IN AVCA POLL

The Illinois volleyball team remained in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches Top 25 Poll for the 10th-straight week, coming in at No. 19 in this week's rankings. The Illini opened the season with a No. 6 preseason ranking, before moving up one spot for a season-high ranking of No. 5 the following week. 

Illinois is one of six Big Ten schools ranked the AVCA Poll, including No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Nebraska and No. 16 Purdue, while Michigan is also receiving votes. 

Along with their conference foes, the Illini have faced two other opponents in the top-25, including No. 10 Marquette and No. 12 Washington.

HEAD COACH CHRIS TAMAS IN THIRD SEASON AT THE HELM OF ILLINI VOLLEYBALL

Chris Tamas is in his third season as head coach of the Fighting Illini volleyball program in 2019 after being named to the position in February 2017. Tamas (pronounced Thomas) is the eighth head coach in Illinois history.

In his first two seasons at the helm of the program, Tamas made an immediate impact on Illinois volleyball and currently owns an overall record of 65-24 (.730), including a 34-16 (.680) mark in the nation's toughest volleyball league, the Big Ten Conference.

Illinois experienced one of its most successful seasons ever in 2018 under Tamas, who was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Northeast Region Coach of the Year. The Illini made the program's fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA National Semifinals as the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament – riding a 17-match win streak into the Final Four - and ended the season ranked No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches Poll. The team registered a 32-4 overall record and finished in second place in the Big Ten Conference with a 17-3 mark, with the 32 victories ranking tied for fourth-most wins in school history.

ILLINI ADVANCE TO FOURTH-EVER NCAA FINAL FOUR IN HISTORIC 2018 SEASON

The Illini are coming off an historic 2018 season that saw the Orange & Blue make the program's fourth appearance in the NCAA National Semifinals after earning the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Illini ended the season with a 32-4 overall record – with the 32 wins ranking fourth-most in program history - and finished in second place in the Big Ten Conference with a 17-3 mark.
