ST. CATHERINES, Canada – Fighting Illini incoming freshman Ayo Dosunmu helped the USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team win a gold medal Saturday at the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men in St. Catharines, Canada.
In the title game, the USA (6-0) withstood an early run from host Canada (5-1) and dominated the game's final 36 minutes to claim a 113-74 victory and the 2018 FIBA Americas Men's U18 Championship gold medal.
In Saturday's final, Dosunmu scored 10 points (5-7 FG), dished out a team-high six assists, pulled down five boards and had two steals in 19 minutes. For the tournament, he averaged 9.5 points per game, shooting 62.5 percent from the field (25-40) and 100 percent from the line (7-7). He led the team with 4.5 assists per game and pulled down 2.3 rebounds per game in 19.2 minutes per game.
Dosumnu will now head to Champaign to begin summer workouts with his Fighting Illini teammates.
