Nwoko runs 53.24 in Mt. SAC 400m Elite Section
TORRANCE, Calif. – The Illinois women's track and field team concluded its trip to three meets in California on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invites. Chisom Nwoko set her second best time of the season in the Mt. SAC 400m, while Nicole Choquette's 800-meter race led the Illini performances at the Beach Invite.

Qualifying for the elite section for the 400m at the Mt. SAC Relays, sophomore Chisom Nwoko toed the line against some of the top collegiate 400-meter sprinters along with a couple of professionals. Coming off a 53.11 personal record two weeks ago at Jim Click, Nwoko came back with a 53.24 performance on Saturday, placing 10th overall.
In addition to Nwoko's performance, the Illini also ran both of their sprint relays in Torrance. In the 4x100m relay, the Illini carried the stick around in 45.44 seconds, their second fastest time of the season. The Illini capped the meet off by timing their fastest 4x400m relay of the season by four seconds, finishing in 3:41.53.
Over at the Beach Invite in Long Beach, Nicole Choquette and Mikaela Lucki each ran in the 800m. After timing a season-best 2:07.22 on Friday at the Bryan Clay Invite, Choquette again finished in under two minutes, 10 seconds with a time of 2:09.41, while Lucki lowered her best time of the season to 2:13.52 to place fourth in section eight.
On the first two days of competition, the Fighting Illini set seven personal records between the three meets. Freshman Rebecca Craddock highlighted the action by timing 4:21.04 in the 1500m at Bryan Clay, the sixth-fastest time in Illinois history. Up next, the Illini will wrap up the regular season with its annual trip to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays, April 26-28. Postseason meets begin two weeks later, May 11-13, at Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana.
