Big Ten Release
The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday the Big Ten opponents for the 2018-19 men's basketball schedule.
The 14 Big Ten teams will compete in a 20-game conference schedule, playing seven teams both home and away and six teams once (three home, three away).
Under the new 20-game format, the three in-state rivalries – Illinois/Northwestern, Indiana/Purdue and Michigan/Michigan State – will be played twice annually, while the new schedule will also include a regional component to increase the frequency of games among teams in similar areas. Over the course of a six-year cycle (12 playing opportunities), in-state rivals will play each other 12 times, regional opponents will play 10 times, and all other teams will play nine times.
Next season, the Illini will face Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin in home-and-home matchups. Illinois' single-play home matchups include Michigan, Michigan State and Rutgers, while the Orange and Blue will travel to Iowa, Maryland and Purdue without a return game.
Dates, times and television information will be announced at a later date.
