Craddock sets eighth fastest 5K
STANFORD, Calif. – Illinois women's distance runners Rebecca Craddock and Nicole Choquette each set personal-best performances at the Stanford Invite on Friday afternoon and evening. Craddock's PR in the 5K set the eighth-fastest time in Illinois program history.
"It was a productive day for Nicole and Rebecca," said distance coach Sarah Haveman."They raced well and set the tone for their outdoor season. They can be proud and excited representing our program."
Making her collegiate outdoor debut, freshman Rebecca Craddock timed 16:30.90 in section two of the 5,000m race. Lapping the 400m track 13 times, Craddock's lap splits ranged from 1:17 to 1:23 on the evening.
"Craddock did a great job," Haveman said. "She ran boldly and proved to herself there is a lot she can do at this distance."
Moving into eighth on Illinois' all-time list, Craddock has now joined three top-10 lists in her first season with the Illini. In the 5,000m, Craddock passed former Illini Elizabeth Boyle (16:34.59), Laura Simmering (16:35.64) and Kristin Sutherland (16:43.47) on the list.
Nicole Choquette led off the day for the Illini with a personal-record performance in the 1500m race. The Illini graduate student clocked 4:30.27 in section six of the competition, shaving a second off her previous best time. Choquette's previous best time of 4:31.45 came at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invite in 2015.
"Choquette is proving herself more and more versatile in race distance and responding to how races unfold," said Haveman. "This will certainly serve her very well as the season progresses."
Up next, the rest of the Illini track and field team will continue their weekend competition at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Mississippi The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. central time. Live results for the meet can be found here.
