Illinois Falls in Braggin' Rights Game

Frazier scores 28 in annual border battle

ST. LOUIS -- Illinois snapped its five-game winning streak in the annual Braggin' Rights game Saturday, falling to Missouri 79-63 at Enterprise Center.

Trent Frazier led the Illini with 28 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 6-of-13 from three-point range, but it was not enough as Missouri pulled away late. Illinois took a 56-55 lead with 7:43 left on a runner from Frazier before Mizzou closed the game on a 24-7 run.

The game was tight throughout with neither team gaining a double-digit lead until Missouri pulled away. Illinois led by as many as eight in the first half and led for more than 10 minutes of the first half before entering the break down 39-35.

Giorgi Bezhanishvili and Aaron Jordan each added 10 points for the Illini.

Jeremiah Tilmon scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Javon Pickett added 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting for Missouri (8-3), which broke a five-game losing streak to Illinois (4-8).

Frazier put Illinois in front for the first time since the first half when he drove to the left block and kissed a shot off the glass with 7:43 left in the game. But Tilmon put Missouri right back in the lead at 58-56 with a dunk and free throw on the next possession, and the Tigers pulled away.

Illinois is 25-13 against Missouri in the Braggin' Rights series in St. Louis and 32-17 overall against the Tigers.

UP NEXT: The Illini return to action Saturday, Dec. 29, with a home game against Florida Atlantic.
