Women's Golf Takes Seventh at Big Ten Championships

Two Illini earned spots among the top 25 individuals.
MAINEVILLE, Ohio – Fighting Illini women's golf placed two individuals among the top-25 at the 2017 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships, while finishing in seventh overall as a team. Illinois shot 13-over par in the final round of play to finish 44-over par through three rounds at TPC River's Bend (Par 72, 6,357 yards). Michigan State took the Big Ten Championship crown, while Northwestern finished in the runner-up position.
"As a team, scores improved each day," head coach Renee Slone said. "But clearly this was not the performance that we were looking for at this particular tournament. I think it has definitely showed us some areas of growth and given us some opportunity to hone in on some specifics for the team as well as individual players, which will direct our practices for the next couple of weeks to help us prepare even better for regionals."
Junior Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Freshman Swing Liu led the Illini, finishing 9-over par and in a tie for 21st overall. Both shot 1-over par in the final round. Prapassarangkul carded two birdies on the day, also adding an eagle on the Par-5 eighth hole. Liu was 4-over par on the front nine before posting four birdies after making the turn.
Sophomore Bing Singhsumalee tied for 35th individually after a 5-over par final round tally; she shot 14-over par through three rounds of play. Junior Grace Park closed the tournament 17-over par after a final round score of 6-over par. Both Singhsumalee and Park carded birdies on the front nine for the Orange and Blue.
Junior Dana Gattone negated an early bogey with a birdie on the seventh hole and finished the day 6-over par. She placed 48th individually with a total tally 19-over par. Senior Stephanie Miller closed the tournament 25-over par in a tie for 62nd.

NCAA REGIONAL SELECTIONS
The 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships selections announcement will be Thursday, April 27, at 10 a.m. CT, on Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website. The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regional Championships will be held May 8-10.
The four regional sites include UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina, The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas and The Ohio State Golf Club, in Columbus, Ohio.
