Illinois Falls to Nebraska on the Road

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Illinois women's tennis team fell to Nebraska on Sunday, 5-2. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the Fighting Illini, as they drop to 9-10 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten, while Nebraska moves to 17-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The doubles point went to Nebraska, with the Huskers winning the No. 1 and the No. 3 doubles matches. Nebraska's pair of Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad won the No. 3 doubles match against Alexis Casati and Daniela Pedraza Novak, 6-3. In the No. 1 doubles match, Louise Kwong and Ines Vias were defeated by Mary Hanna and Paula Del Cueto Castillo of Nebraska, 6-3. Jaclyn Switkes and Madie Baillon won the No. 2 doubles match for Illionois, earning the win against Lisa Andersson and Vasanti Shinde, 6-2.
In singles, Illinois would get the first two points, earning victories at the No. 5 and the No. 2 positions. Pedraza Novak defeated Jeannie Lozowski at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-3, and Casati topped Reifeis at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 7-6. The No. 4 singles match went to Nebraska, with Del Cueto Castillo earning the win over Switkes, 6-1, 7-6. Kwong fell to Shinde at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 7-6, and Andersson clinched the match for Nebraska with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position over Grace Tapak.
The No. 3 singles match between Baillon and Mary Hanna remained unfinished at 6-4, 6-7, 6-6.

The Illini will get back on the road next weekend, with matches at Indiana on Friday, April 7 and at Purdue on Sunday, April 9.
