Viney, 4x400m relay miss qualification
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Fighting Men's Track & Field concluded the 2016 NCAA West Region Preliminary round on Saturday at Rock Chalk Park on the campus of the University of Kansas. Senior 110m hurdler Cam Viney placed 14th, while the 4x400m relay team finished XX, neither qualifying for NCAA Championships.
"We had some guys that performed well, and we had some guys that didn't perform as well as they would have liked," said Head Coach Mike Turk. "I think we're at the point where this year has been really challenging for us and our program. But, I know that the people in the program are doing the right things, and they're approaching things the right way. That's all that we can ask. They put forth a great effort, and we just came up short."
Cam Viney, who qualified in the 400m hurdles on Friday afternoon, placed third in heat five of the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.95. However, the mark missed the cut by 0.03 seconds, placing him 14th overall.
Later in the day, the 4x400m relay team rounded out the weekend with a time of 3:08.24. The unit of Matt Burns, Joe McAsey, Kenneth Allen and Cam Viney placed 17th overall.
"They put forth a pretty good effort. I think we got a little too far behind early in the race. The guys were moving as best they could, we moved up and were competitive; we just didn't have enough legs to get there."

Cam Viney will have a week to prepare before heading to Eugene, Oregon for NCAA Championships, June 8-11. The 400m hurdle semifinal is scheduled for June 8 at 8:30 p.m. central time.
