Rogers, Winter Record Top-10 Finishes
NASHVILLE, TENN. – Entering their second weekend of the outdoor campaign, the Fighting Illini started off the Black & Gold Invite with the 200m and 1,500m competition. Janile Rogers placed in the top-five of the 200m, while Hanna Winter led the way in the 1,500m run.
Four Illini started off the competition for the Orange & Blue in the 200m dash. For the second week in a row, Rogers led the way. The red-shirt freshman ran the 200m in 24.69, placing fourth overall. Freshman Sade Hargrove was the next Illini to come through, finishing in 11th with a time of 25.16. Fellow classmates Briana Driver and Emone Davis rounded out the quartet with times of 25.44 and 26.03, respectively.
The Orange & Blue completed day one with their first distance event of the meet, the 1,500m run. Five Illini were featured across the five-heat event, led by Winter who placed seventh overall with a time of 4:35.37. The second Illini to cross the finish line was Valerie Bobart, clocking a 4:42.27 time. Denise Branch came in directly behind Bobart with a time of 4:42.46, while Amanda Fox trailed Branch with a 4:45.10 mark. Rounding out the Illini in the field was Audrey Blazek, crossing in 4:53.22.
The Illini return to the track tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for day two of the meet. The long jump competition will be the first event with an Illini competing, while track events will resume at noon with the 4x100m relay.
