Illini senior to play in first PGA Tour event this week.
Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Fighting Illini senior Charlie Danielson will make his first PGA Tour event appearance on Thursday, Feb. 18, as the Osceola, Wis., earned a spot in the Northern Trust Open. Danielson won the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase on Monday, Feb. 15, securing a spot in the PGA event with a score 3-under par. Danielson is currently ranked among the top-25 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and sits at No. 4 in the Golfweek Collegiate rankings.
"This was one of the cooler events I've played in since I've been in college," Danielson said of playing in the Collegiate Showcase. "It's a testament to all of our hard work, to be one of the 14 teams and to be selected for the event and for me to be selected out of the great group of guys on my squad back at home."
The Northern Trust Open begins on Feb. 18 with tee times starting at 9 a.m. CT, and is held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
