Bloch-Jones, Richartz heading to NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - The Fighting Illini women's track and field team wrapped up action at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Saturday evening. After Kandie Bloch-Jones (high jump) and Stephanie Richartz (pole vault) qualified for the NCAA Championships during Friday's competition, the Orange and Blue were hoping to add Breeana Coleman (100m hurdles) and Alyssa Schneider (1,500m) to the list of qualifiers but both Illinois student-athletes came up a bit short.

After qualifying for 100m quarterfinals with the 22nd-best time in prelims, Coleman was seeking a top-12 finish in hopes of earning her third career trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She improved upon her seed in the quarterfinals but came up short of advancing, finishing 16th with a time of 13.60.

Competing in the 1,500m quarterfinal after qualifying with the 13th-best time in the preliminary round, Schneider finished 17th in 4:21.24, missing the cutoff for NCAA Championships qualifying. Schneider was also scheduled to run the 5,000m but withdrew to focus solely on the 1,500m.

Bloch-Jones and Richartz will travel to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon from June 10-13.
