Illini Fall to Hawaii in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - For the second day in a row, the Illinois women's tennis team clinched the doubles point before succumbing in singles competition as the Fighting Illini fell to Hawaii 4-1 on Wednesday, March 25. The neutral site loss moved Illinois to 7-7 on the season.
Sophomores Madie Baillon and Jerricka Boone teamed up on the second doubles court for a 6-1 win and Alexis Casati, in combination with Grace Tapak, were victorious on court three, 6-2, to give Illinois the first point in the contest. Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong were ahead 5-2, but the match was left unfinished.
Baillon and Boone are now 3-1 when working together in doubles and Casati and Tapak are 4-2 as a duo this season.
Singles play on court four finished first, with Tapak falling 6-3, 6-4 to the Rainbow Wahine's Petriskova. Julia Jamieson saw action on court six, but fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, which gave Hawaii a 2-1 lead in the contest.
Despite taking the first set 7-6(5), Kopinski dropped the following sets 6-3, 6-4 on court two, while Casati fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 against #83 Nguyen on the first court.
In unfinished contests, Kwong led 7-5, 6-5 on court three and Jade Hilton claimed the first set on court five, but trailed 6-1, 3-6, 0-5 when the match was concluded.
Michelle Dasso's crew will now head straight to the state of Michigan, where the Illini will face Michigan State on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. CST and the Michigan Wolverines the following day at 11 a.m. CST.
