PEORIA, Ariz. - With the second, and final, day of the fourth annual Westbrook Invitational in the books, the University of Illinois women's golf team picked up an eighth place team finish with an overall score of 875 (+11). The Illini produced rounds of 291, 288 and 296, respectively, while in Peoria, Arizona.
The Illini entered the final day at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in third place, just 11 strokes out of the top spot. Illinois turned in a third round score of 296, which tied for the highest team-carding of the round to drop Illinois into eighth place.
"We were in prime position after the first two rounds and we didn't get it done," said head coach Renee Slone. "Yesterday was a solid day and we weren't able to capitalize on it today."
Illinois was led by freshman Chayanid Prapassarangkul, who shot a combined score of 213 (-3) on rounds of 73, 70 and 70. Prapassarangkul finished the tournament tied for third individually and produced an eagle, seven birdies and 40 even-par holes. The third place outing is the best of Prapassrangkul's collegiate career as is her 54-hole score of 213..
Dana Gattone finished in a tie for 25th with a score of 219 (+3). She carded 38 holes at par in addition to seven birdies on rounds of 70, 73 and 76. Grace Park and Stephanie Miller shared the 54th spot with three other golfers who turned in combined scores of 225. Emily Joers tied for 54th individually, after sporting a score of 226 (+10).
Pimploy Thirati competed individually at the Westbrook Invitational. The Illini senior produced rounds of 74, 81 and 77 for a grand total of 232 to finish at T-75.
Slone's unit will travel again next weekend to the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida. The Illini will hit the links from March 2-4 with the action scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. CST each day.
