Rosemont, Ill. - Fighting Illini sophomore golfer Nick Hardy has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week as announced on Wednesday, Oct. 21, by the league office. Hardy is coming off of a third place finish at the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, where the Illini competed against some of the nation's best collegiate golf programs. The honor is the first for Hardy in his career and the third for an Illini golfer this season.
Hardy, a native of Northbrook, Ill., led the Illini at the Tavistock Invitational this week, finishing the tournament 3-under par and just three shots back from the tournament leader. Hardy has finished among the top-10 individuals in each of Illinois' four tournaments this fall, and he is second on the team with his 71.66 stroke average. As a team, the Illini have earned three tournament titles this fall.
The Illini are back in Champaign preparing for the East Lake Cup, a new match play event that will air live on the Golf Channel Nov. 2-3. The tournament welcomes the four 2015 NCAA semifinalists (LSU, USC, Georgia and Illinois) to Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club.
