Hey Illini Fans!
Welcome back! We've been all over the globe this winter break seeing friends and family and working on our games. Florida, Wisconsin, California, Maryland, Hawaii, Thailand and Japan all played host to members of the team over the break. We returned refreshed, reenergized, and ready to hit the ground running! The first week of class back here in Champaign flew by. Even though it's my last semester, I still have to look at my schedule after each class to remind myself where I'm heading next. Between class, workouts, and practice, the team is settling back into a routine comfortably.
The first few days of team practice went extremely well! We worked hard on our games over break: some made swing changes while others got on the course and worked on getting back in the competitive mindset. All of this hard work is obvious at practice. My teammates are getting it done! In addition, we've been practicing with our match play partners to prepare for the Illinois Challenge this coming weekend. We even got outside on the course this past Saturday! I'll take it as a good sign for the rest of the season if we can be outside at the end of January ☺.
Every year, Bill Russell hosts the team and our coaches for dinner at his home. It is always delicious, and this year he outdid himself. His lasagna was absolutely amazing, and the cake his wife, Tami, made for dessert was to die for. It is so nice to get off campus and share a meal with Illinois golf supporters like Bill, Tami and Sid. I can't think of a better way to kick off the week leading up to the Illinois Challenge. Thanks Bill!
That sums up what we've been doing for the past few weeks. We'll be working hard up until we leave for the Illinois Challenge on Friday. Follow our progress on Twitter, or come out to watch us play if you're in the area! I-L-L!
