
Sloan Continues Streak, Illini Take Eighth at Lady Buckeye Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Samantha Sloan (232) fired a final round 76 on Sunday at the Lady Buckeye Invitational to finish tied for 20th and extend her streak of top-25 finishes to six. Sloan paced the Illini effort which posted a final round 320 at the par-72 6,228-yard Scarlet Course. Illinois (941) took eighth place in the 15-team field, finishing ahead of four fellow Big Ten teams in the final regular season event.
"This event got us going in the right direction, and we want to carry this momentum into Big Tens," head coach Renee Slone said. "The rounds yesterday were our best rounds of the spring so far because of the challenging course it was done on, which was a big confidence boost for the team."
Freshman Hailey Koschmann (233) finished a stroke behind Sloan after a final round 81 and tied for 24th overall, marking her fourth top-25 finish of the season. Freshman Nora Lucas (237) also turned in a final round 81 and finished tied for 40th. Senior Nancy Featherstone (241) added an 84 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 52nd. Freshman Katelin Dilger (249) shot her best round of the event on Sunday with an 82 and moved up seven spots into a tie for 67th.
Tournament host Ohio State (895) won the team title, finishing 10 strokes ahead of second-place No. 22 Kent State (905). Washington (911), Northwestern (915) and Indiana (919) rounded out the top five, respectively.
In Hong Lim of Ohio State earned individual medalist honors with a 1-over 217, edging second-place Laura Kueny (218) of Michigan State by a single stroke.
Up Next: Illinois heads to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Big Ten Championship at Purdue's Kampen Course next weekend. The 72-hole event will begin on Friday, April 24 and conclude on Sunday, April 26.
