
Sloan Leads Illini at Duck Invitational

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - Freshman Samantha Sloan led the Fighting Illini by firing a 76 in the final round of the Duck Invitational on Tuesday. Sloan finished with a three-round total of 229 at the par-72, 5,954-yard Shadow Hills Country Club to tie for 15th place overall. Illinois dropped two places to finish ninth after totaling a 322 in Tuesday's final round.
Sloan shot consistent rounds of 78-75-76 to notch her third straight top-15 finish for the Orange and Blue. Senior Nancy Featherstone shot a final-round 81 after leading the team on day one with rounds of 75 and 77. Her 54-hole total of 233 (75-77-81) was good enough to tie for 23rd place, which is the lone upperclassmen's best finish of the season. Three freshmen rounded out the rest of the UI line-up as Nora Lucas fired a 79 in the final round to tie for 50th with a 245 total (83-83-79), Katie Dilger finished 60th with a 254 total (84-83-87) and Kaitlyn Wampler was 61st with a 255 (88-81-86).
San Francisco fired a 295 in the final round to finish with a total of 887 and stay in front of host Oregon (902) for the team title in the 12-team field. Oregon State (910), Missouri (915) and UC Davis (927) round out the top five.
San Francisco's Natasha Podmore (218) took home medalist honors over teammate Danielle Cvitanov (220), who finished second.
The Fighting Illini will have next week off before heading to the Indiana Invitational April 6-7 in Columbus, Ind.
