CHICAGO, Ill. -
A total of 54 Illinois athletes from five fall sports have been named Academic All-Big Ten as released by the conference office. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. Fighting Illini soccer had the most student-athletes honored with 14 players, while there were also nine Academic All-Big Ten honorees in men's cross country, 11 in women's cross country, 12 from football and eight from volleyball.
The fall honorees include NCAA cross country champion Angela Bizzarri, All-Big Ten offensive guard Jon Asamoah and All-Big Ten volleyball players Laura DeBruler, Hillary Haen and Johannah Bangert.
