
Illini 4x400m Advances to Drake Relay Final

DES MOINES, Iowa - Illinois' 4x400m relay advanced to tomorrow's event finals on Friday at the Drake Relays, as the squad of Yawusa Kinda, Gakologelwang Masheto, Eugene Ellis and Brandon Gray timed 3 minutes, 11.21 seconds.
The Illini ran the eighth-fastest 4x400m time of the day to qualify, with Masheto back from a foot injury and running his first outdoor race of the season. Baylor posted the fastest time in event preliminaries (3:10.24). The 4x400m final is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.
Illinois was 11th in the 4x800m relay, as Gary Miller, Scott Phelps, Ellis and Brian Beaird ran a time of 7:44.64. Senior Nick Brown took 15th in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
The Drake Relays conclude tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. Along with the 4x400m final, the Illini are also scheduled to compete in the sprint medley relay and distance medley relay. Live results can be found at www.drakerelays.org.
