
Bizzarri Named to USTFCCA All-Academic Team

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Sophomore Angela Bizzarri was named to the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) individual All-Academic team while the entire Illinois squad was honored as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, announced this week.
To be eligible for the individual honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and have completed 24 semester hours through 2007. Additionally, they must have finished in the top 15 runners or top 10 percent of finishers at a NCAA regional meet or earned All-America honors.
Bizzarri, a bio-medical engineering major, earned All-America honors for the second consecutive year after placing 14th at the 2007 NCAA Championships. She also received All-Midwest Region and All-Big Ten honors, finishing first for the Illini in every race she competed in 2007.
To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a cross country squad must compile a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.00 and compile a team score at an NCAA Regional meet. In total, 158 out of 325 Division I teams received the honor, including nine Big Ten teams.
The Illini finished sixth at the NCAA Championship, the second-highest in school history and their third consecutive top-ten finish. Illinois also finished second at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships and fourth at the Big Ten Championships.
