Chip Shots with Seul Ki Park

Feb. 11, 2008

Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the first spring edition of the season, senior Seul Ki Park recaps winter break highlights, discusses the start of second semester and gives an update on spring season preparations.

First, I would like to provide a few highlights regarding everyone's break. Congratulations to Kristine and Stephanie for getting engaged. We were all excited when we heard the news, but we weren't surprised. Congrats to Kristi as well for getting a job with JP Morgan. Kristi also spent three weeks in Florida and ordered a new set of golf clubs. Nancy spent most of her break with her hometown friends and invented an awesome game that they called `Ultimate Pong' only to later realize that it was pretty much racquetball. Nancy also got to ride in the Franklin fire truck and played with all the lights and sirens. Raquel (aka Rockie/Freshman) went to Chinatown in Chicago for Christmas, Detroit for the Motor City Bowl and Indianapolis for New Year's. I had a relaxing break at home spending a lot of time with my family and friends. My family and I went on a ski trip to Lake Geneva, WI and I safely returned home without any injures.

It has been four weeks since school started and we are all off to a great start. During these first couple weeks, we started right where we left off before break with strength and conditioning. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we have weights, where Katie (our trainer) pushes us to really reach our potential. Tuesdays and Thursdays we have early morning workouts where we work on cardio, kickboxing and pilates. I am really impressed and proud of the team because we have "stepped it up" this year with conditioning. Everyone on the team has become stronger and more fit. Mentally, we've become more aggressive and positive with our attitudes towards the team and ourselves. Even after a tough day of workouts or weights, we've learned to suck it up and help one another by encouraging and praising each other. Coach has scheduled team meetings for us to discuss our stats from the fall season and analyze the improvements we need to make. We have created a mission statement and set goals for our upcoming spring season.

Our season has now officially started and we're all excited to practice at the Demirjian Indoor Facility as we make preparations for our first tournament at the University of Florida Golf Course.
