OSAKA, Japan - Former Illini track and field great Perdita Felicien (Pickering, Ontario) won the silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles while representing Canada at the world track and field championships on Wednesday.

Felicien's time of 12.49 seconds was her best in the event since she broke the Canadian record in 2004 (12.46). She took first in the 100m hurdles at the 2003 World Championships.

"I couldn't have asked for better for my 27th birthday," Felicien said. "I feel like I'm 18."

Michelle Perry of the United States successfully defended her title, winning gold in 12.46. Delloreen London of Jamaica won bronze with a time of 12.50.

"Looking where I came from, even a top-five would have satisfied me.," Felicien said. "Things have only been coming together in the last few weeks. This silver is like a gold to me."

Felicien also took silver in the 100m hurdles at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July.

She starred for the Illinois women's track and field team from 2000-2003, tallying a total of 10 All-America accolades, winning two NCAA titles and breaking the NCAA record in the 60-meter hurdles (7.90). Felicien is still coached by Illini women's track and field coach Gary Wincker.
