CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois's series with Ohio State has had two games cancelled because of cold weather in Champaign as Saturday's doubleheader will not be played. The teams will play a doubleheader consisting of a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning contest on Sunday, beginning at 12:05 p.m. The other two games will not be made up because of the Big Ten policy mandating the completion of a conference series in a three-day span once the visiting team has left its campus.
Saturday's forecast game-time temperature was 31 degrees with 21 mph winds that would have created a 18-degree wind chill. Coaches from Illinois and Ohio State decided Saturday morning that playing the game would not be in the best interest of the student-athletes from either school.
