April 6, 2007
URBANA, Ill.- The 2007 Illini Spring Classic, scheduled for April 6 and 7, has been cancelled due to frigid temperatures and high winds at Stone Creek Golf Club. Play started as scheduled at 11 a.m. on Friday, but players were called back to the clubhouse after less than an hour on the course, as the wind chill dipped into the mid-teens.
The forecast for the rest of Friday, and for Saturday, did not show much hope for improvement, so the decision to cancel the tournament was made by the coaches at 12:45 p.m. It is the first time the Spring Classic has been cancelled in the 31-year history of the event.
Illinois won't have much time to relax, however, as it now heads to the IU Invitational, April 9-10, at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
