Chip Shots with Seul Ki Park

Feb. 1, 2007

Go behind the the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the first edition, junior Seul Ki Park talks about what the team has been up to since the fall season.

Winter break went by so fast, but it is nice to back in school with my teammates. I believe the majority of our team went somewhere warm to get some golf in. For instance, I went to Los Angeles for about two weeks to play golf. The weather in Los Angeles was in the 70's, which was perfect golfing weather. It is really important for a golfer to continue to play and practice golf throughout the whole year so we don't lose the feel of our swing or putting stroke.

At our last tournament for the fall season, our team finished 2nd and had "a sensational record-breaking single round performance" at The Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Indiana. Our performance at the Legends inspired us, giving us the motivation and inspiration we needed to really drive our potential and personal strengths to become a great team. Furthermore, ending our season the way that we did gave us confidence and motivated us to practice more during winter training. As you can see, winter break for us wasn't really a break at all. It was a time for work, allowing us to improve upon our individual golf games in preparation for the upcoming season.

When school started, we were all excited to see our new indoor golf facility, Demirjian. Both the men's and women's golf teams got the tour of the new facility and we are now able to use the short game area and the hitting base. Our coaches said that our indoor facility was one of the best in the country, which makes it an honor and privilege for us to have a place like this. So, we are taking full advantage of this amazing practice facility. We are working on our short game and our coaches continue to record our swings at the hitting base to see where we can improve. We practice at the new facility whenever we have the chance... early morning, afternoon, or night. We also continue our conditioning and cardio workouts as a part of training. We are and will continue to work hard in preparation for the spring season and proudly represent the Orange and Blue!
