Champaign, Ill. - University of Illinois junior golfer Patrick Nagle (Pacifica, Calif.) has been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Regional Championships. Nagle will head to Chadron, Ohio to compete in the NCAA Central Regional, hosted by Cleveland State University on May 18-20 at the Sand Ridge Golf Club (par 71 / 7,173 yards).
Nagle, a second-team All-Big Ten selection, led the Illini during the season with a 73.61 stroke average in 23 rounds of golf. He has recorded four Top-10 finishes on the year and was Illinois' top finisher in five of eight tournaments before a hand injury forced him out of the UI lineup for the final three tournaments of the regular season. Nagle has carded six rounds below par this season, led by a 6-under-par 66 during the first round of the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, which tied the fifth lowest round in school history. Nagle owns the second lowest career stroke average in school history, currently at 73.19.
The postseason for college golf consists of three regionals: East, Central, and West. Twenty-seven teams and six individuals not among those teams have been invited to each of the three regionals. The top 10 finishing teams and top two finishing individuals not among those top 10 teams from each regional will qualify for the 2006 NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Portland, May 31-June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore.
