
Illini Post Solid Marks In Day Two Of Drake Relays

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After junior Trent Hoerr kicked off the 2006 Drake Relay's Thursday evening with a solid showing in the 5,000-meter run, head coach Wayne Angel and the remainder of the Fighting Illini men's track and field team jumped into the thick of things Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, coming away with three regional qualifying marks and advancing to Saturday's finals in three different events.
Freshman Dominique Worsley and senior Andre English led the Illini, each individually qualifying for tomorrow's finals in their respective events. Worsley placed first in his 100-meter prelim heat with a 10.64, while English ran away with his heat in the 110-meter hurdle prelims with a season-best and regional qualifying time of 14.13.
The 4x100-meter relay of English, junior Nathan Vadeboncoeur, sophomore Pierre Bush and Worsley qualified for tomorrow's final and this year's regional meet with a 40.65 placing second in their heat.
Alongside their second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, the Illini saw themselves finish runner-up in three other relay events on Friday (two prelims and two finals). The 4x200-meter relay of senior Abe Jones, Bush, Vadeboncoeur and Worsley posted an Orange and Blue season-best time of 1:23.82, however fell to a fast Florida relay that posted a time of 1:23.48 to take first in the event final.
The 4x400-meter prelims saw Illinois' relay of Vadeboncoeur, sophomore Scott Puhse, senior Aaron King and sophomore Paul Johnson placed second in their heat with a time of 3:13.61. The time failed to advance them to Saturday's final.
Distance runners, sophomore Trent Hoerr, senior Tim Hobbs, junior Jason Bill and junior Dan Stock teamed up to record a second-place finish in the 4x1,600-meter relay final (16:30.91).
The pole vault saw junior Eric Disilvestro and sophomore John Adamczyk tie season bests in the event. DiSilvestro recorded a 4.90-meters (16-00.75) to take 14th overall and Adamczyk placed 15th with a mark of 4.75-meters (15-07.00).
Sophomore Nick Brown recorded a regional qualifying mark in the long jump with a leap of 7.42-meters (24-04.25), a mark that was good for eighth place overall.
In the high jump, senior Charley Kurlinkus tied for seventh with a mark of 2.00-meters (6-6.75).
