PARK RIDGE, Ill. -
Macall was named Big Ten Player fo the Week after extending her perfect Big Ten record at No. 1 singles in style, by handing Northwestern All-American Cristelle Grier the first conference loss of her 44-match career. After dropping the first set 6-7(4), Harkins took the second set by a convincing score of 6-0. The Illinois sophomore battled the senior in the third set to force an astounding eight point tiebreaker to pick up the victory. Earlier in the day, Harkins and teammate Emily Wang nearly upset the then-10th ranked duo of Grier and Alexis Prousis at No. 1 doubles, before falling in a tiebreaker. The following day, Harkins squared off against Kaylan Caiti of Wisconsin and picked up the decisive point with a straight set win. The California native currently boasts an 8-0 record in conference play this season all at the No. 1 position.
The honor is the second for Harkins on the year, with the other coming on March 15.
