CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Dee Brown scored 15 points, including two long 3-pointers in the second half, and James Augustine added 14 to lead No. 17 Illinois to a 78-52 exhibition victory over Quincy on Wednesday night.
Brown, who was 0-for-6 from 3-point range in Illinois' first exhibition last week, found a spot above the free throw circle about 24 feet and drained two consecutive jumpers to give the Illini a 64-39 lead with 8:10 left. The AP preseason All-America finished 3-for-8 from long range.
Quincy, a Division II school, committed eight turnovers in the opening eight minutes and had trouble controlling the ball all night, finishing with 25. Illinois scored 24 points off those miscues.
The Illini committed 20 turnovers, but the Hawks converted them into only five points.
Jamar Smith added 10 points and Shaun Pruitt had 10 rebounds for the Illini, who will open the regular season on Nov. 18 against South Dakota State. Illinois played without forward Warren Carter, who broke his nose in practice last weekend, but he is expected to be ready for the opener.
Ryan Walker scored 11 points to lead Quincy, which will play another exhibition at Notre Dame on Friday.
