Park Tied for First at Shootout at The Legends

Franklin, Ind. - Behind the sensational play of sophomore Seul Ki Park, the Illini women's golf team is in seventh place out of 19 teams after two rounds of play at the Shootout at The Legends, held at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. (par 72, 6,073 yards). The Illini shot a team score of 305 in the morning round and tied its low round of the fall season with a 300 in the afternoon, for a 36-hole total of 605 strokes.
Park, meanwhile, is tied atop the leaderboard in the 95-player field at 2-under par after the first day of play. The Winnetka native was consistent all day, carding a 1-over 73 in round one and a 3-under 69 in round two. Park's 69 ties the fourth lowest round in school history, while her two-round total of 142 strokes is a school 36-hole scoring record, breaking the previous record of 144 initially set by Laurin Kanda at the 2003 Illini Spring Classic.
"I was able to hit a lot of great shots today," Park said about her performance. "My irons were dead-on. I stayed out of trouble and didn't set myself up for extra strokes."
Senior Megan Godfrey is tied for 33rd place with a score of 153 (77-76), while junior Meghan Naik is one stroke behind Godfrey, tied for 38th place at 154 (78-76). Also scoring for the Illini in each round today was sophomore Casey Burden, who is tied for 54th at 156 (77-79). In the race for the team title, Kent State and Missouri are tied for first place with scores of 594 and are each 11 shots in front of the Illini.
The third and final round of the 54-hole Shootout at The Legends will be held Tuesday.
