
Pummer Captures Parallel Bars Title At International Competition

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois junior Adam Pummer got a jump-start on the competition this season by participating in the Taipei International Invitational over the weekend in Taipei, Taiwan. Representing the U.S, the Allentown, Pa. native scored a 9.225 to capture the title in the international competition.
Pummer also placed second on vault with a score of 9.065 and posted a score of 9.0 on high bar that was good enough for third place. Pummer was the only gymnast for the U.S. to place first on an event, while as a team, the U.S. added two second-place finishes and a third-place finish. Former Penn State gymnast and two-time NCAA Champion Kevin Tan took second on the rings with a score of 9.55.
In its 12th year in existence, the Taipei International Invitational features some of the most talented gymnasts from around the world who are invited to Taiwan to compete in one of the largest international gymnastics competitions in Asia. The invitational works to promote the sport of gymnastics and enhance the level of competition in Taiwan.
Pummer will rejoin his Illini teammates Jan. 8 as the Orange and Blue travel to Chicago to open the season at the Windy City Invitational, hosted by the University of Illinois--Chicago.
