The Fighting Illini men's basketball team held its annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage this afternoon at the Assembly Hall in front of a crowd of 7,200. Three 10-minute periods were played, with 12 of the 14 Illini players switching jersey colors from period to period, eventually playing for both squads during the course of the scrimmage. The "Orange" team won period one by the score of 23-20 and period two by the score of 29-24. The "Blue" team won the third and final period by the score of 35-33. The official score for the game was an 85-79 Orange victory.
Illini junior Deron Williams led all scorers on the afternoon, scoring 29 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including an impressive 7-of-8 from 3-point land. Williams recorded a double-double on the afternoon by also tallying a game-high 12 assists. Senior Luther Head was right behind Williams in the scoring column. Head finished with 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting, scoring 14 for the Orange and 13 for the Blue. He also had a double-double, finishing with 11 assists.
Junior guard Dee Brown had 21 points and sophomore Rich McBride added 20 points behind 6-of-7 accuracy on 3-pointers.
Following the scrimmage, Illini players and Head Coach Bruce Weber held a 45-minute autograph session.
Illinois is back in action at the Assembly Hall on Friday, Nov. 5, hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in an exhibition game. Game-time is set for 7 p.m.
