Illinois Finishes Eighth at Mary Fossum Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. - The Illini women's golf team carded a final-round score of 318 today to finish in eighth place with a 54-hole score of 944 at the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State at the par 72, 6,236-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course. The host Spartans won the 16-team tournament with a score of 901, beating runner-up Kent State (926) by 25 strokes.
A pair of seniors led the way for the Illini throughout the weekend. Michelle Carroll tied for 12th place in the 90-player field, finishing the tournament at 15-over par with a score of 231 (79-74-78). Finishing just one shot behind Carroll was fellow UI senior Marla Cox. Cox tied for 15th place at 16-over par with rounds of 78-74-80 en route to a 232 score.
Sophomore Megan Godfrey just missed a spot in the Top 25, tying for 26th place at 20-over par (236). Rounding out the Illini action, freshman Meghan Naik tied for 53rd with a 245, while junior Lyndsey Milligan tied for 77th at 254.
Michigan State's Allison Fouch and Arkansas' Courtney Mahon shared medalist honors at the Invitational, posting winning scores of 6-over par 222.
Illinois is back in action next weekend at the annual Lady Northern, hosted by Ohio State Sept. 27-28.
