Illinois Ties for 10th Place at Central District Classic

Parrish, Fla. - Behind the strength of today's final-round 305, Illinois moved up two places in the team standings to tie for 10th place at the Central District Classic, held at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla. Illinois finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 938, tied with Michigan State.
Ohio State won the 15-team Classic with a total score of 909. Baylor finished six strokes behind the Buckeyes for runner-up honors with a 915, while Texas A&M and Kansas State tied for third place at 923.
Illinois had two golfers record Top 20 individual finishes in seniors Stephanie Cheney and Renata Young. Both players finished 16-over par with scores of 232 to tie for 19th place. Cheney carded rounds of 79, 77 and 76 while Young shot 78-78-76.
Senior Laurin Kanda improved 12 places in the individual standings today behind the strength of her final-round 75, the lowest round recorded by an Illini golfer during the tournament. Kanda tied for 32nd with a score of 236. Marla Cox tied for 42nd with a 238 and Michelle Carroll finished 69th at 252 to wrap up the Illini performances.
Ohio State's Kristen White captured medalist honors in the 75-player field, finishing with a 2-over par score of 218.
The Illini are next in action March 3-4 at the 'Mo' Memorial in Houston, Texas.
