Illinois Finishes 16th at Shootout at The Legends

Franklin, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team shot a final-round score of 318 today to finish in 16th place with a 54-hole score of 938 at the Shootout at The Legends, held at the par 72, 6,207-yard The Legends Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. Kent State won the 18-team tournament with a score of 877, beating runner-up Indiana (879) by two strokes.
Senior Marla Cox led the Illini, tying for 27th place individually with a 54-hole score of 10-over par 226. Cox shot the lowest score for the Illini in all three rounds, carding a 77 today to go along with rounds of 74 and 75 yesterday. Cox has now been Illinois' top finisher in two of four tournaments this fall.
Fellow senior Michelle Carroll was Illinois' second finisher, tying for 42nd place with a 14-over par score of 230. Carroll carded rounds of 77-75-78 en route to her three-round total.
Indiana's Karen Dennison captured medalist honors in the 93-player field with a winning score of 3-under par 213.
Illinois has one tournament remaining during the 2003 fall season, the Florida International Invitational Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Miami, Fla.
