Illini Women in sixth at Lady Northern

Iowa City, Iowa - The Illini women's team sits in sixth place at the annual Lady Northern Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Iowa at the par 73, 6,000-yard Finkbine Golf Course. The Illini shot rounds of 308 and 303 today, good for a 36-hole score of 611, 27 strokes above par. Indiana leads the 12-team field at 5-over with a score of 589.
Junior Marla Cox is tied for ninth place individually to lead the Illini. Cox shot a 76 in the first round and fired an even-par 73 in round two, to stand 3-over with a score of 149. Stephanie Cheney is tied for 17th place at 6-over (152), after recording back-to-back 76s. Senior Laurin Kanda is also in the Top 20 individually, tied for 19th place at 7-over (153). Kanda shot rounds of 78 and 75, respectively.
Rounding out the Illini lineup, junior Michelle Carroll is tied for 36th with a score of 158 (78-80), senior Renata Young is tied for 40th with a 159 (78-81) and senior Carmel Sielicki is tied for 48th at 163 (84-79).
The Lady Northern concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes of play.
