CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - While collegiate competition is over for the year, Illinois track and field senior-to-be Perdita Felicien continues to rack up the victories as she won 100m hurdle title at the 2002 Canadian Track and Field National Championships in Edmonton, Alberta over the weekend.
Felicien finished with a time of 12.77 seconds, her fastest time of the year and just .04 seconds off her personal-best time. The time was also just .01 seconds off the Canadian National Championship meet record.
Felicien opened the Championships with a win in the preliminary rounds in a time of 13.35 seconds despite running into a stiff head wind. The victory in the prelims automatically qualified the Pickering, Ontario, native to the finals, which were completed on Saturday evening.
This is the fourth major championship won by Felicien already this year. She opened up the 2002 season by winning the Big Ten Championships in the 60m hurdles and followed that up with a win at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in the event with a record time of 7.90 seconds. Outdoors, Felicien atoned for her second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in the 100m hurdles by winning the national championship in the event [VIDEO] with a time of 12.91 seconds.
This is also the second national crown won by Felicien in her career. In 1999, she took home the 1999 Canadian Junior National Championship in the 100m hurdles.
