Illini Women Golfers Finish Third at the Indiana Invitational

Bloomington, Ind. - Illinois shot a final round score of 308 today to finish in third place at the Indiana Invitational. The Illini finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 923, 35 strokes above par. The Indiana Invitational was held on the par-74, 6,134-yard IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
Illinois finished just four strokes behind tournament champion Michigan, who won the 14-team field with a score of 919. Host Indiana claimed second place at 921, two strokes ahead of the Illini.
The Illini earned the high finish of third thanks to a trio of golfers who all claimed Top 10 finishes individually in sophomore Marla Cox and juniors Laurin Kanda and Renata Young. Cox, who was tied for first through two rounds of play, finished tied for second at three-over par with a total score of 225. Cox's second-place performance marks the highest finish of her young Illini career. Kanda shot a final round 76 to finish tied for fifth place at five-over 227, while Young improved six places on the leaderboard with her final round score of 74, Illinois' lowest score of the day, to finish tied for eighth at eight-over par with a score of 230.
The Illini women will be at home next weekend, as the team hosts the annual Illini Spring Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana. The Illini Spring Classic will feature 17 teams playing in a 36-hole tournament, with 18 holes set for Friday, April 12 and the final 18 on Saturday, April 13.
