Illinois Finishes in Fourth Place at Mission Inn Fall Classic

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Illinois moved up two spots in the team standings today to finish in fourth place at the Mission Inn Fall Classic, hosted by Stetson University, on the par 72, 6,015-yard El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Illinois shot a final round score of 321 to finish the 36-hole tournament in fourth with a score of 646. Indiana won the 17-team Classic with a score of 614. Wisconsin finished second at 633, while Jacksonville State shot a 641, edging out the Illini by five shots for third.
Leading the way for the Illini was senior Laurin Kanda. Kanda tied for 14th place, shooting rounds of 80 and 79 for a final score of 15-over par 159. Kanda's 79 today was the lowest round recorded by an Illini golfer at the Classic.
Illinois had three golfers finish in the Top 25 individually, as in addition to Kanda's 14th place finish, Senior Stephanie Cheney and junior Michelle Carroll tied for 23rd, each finishing 18-over par with scores of 162.
Indiana swept the top three places, led by Karen Dennison, who captured medalist honors in the 89-player with a score of 149. IU's Danah Ford was runner-up at 150, while Cara Stuckey took third with a 151.
Illinois will compete in its final tournament of the fall season, the Florida International Invitational, Nov. 1-3.
