
Illinois Women's Track Finishes Third At Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. - The Illinois women's track and field team finished third in a scored triangular meet this afternoon at Indiana University against the host Hoosiers and Eastern Michigan. The Illini scored 87 team points to finish behind Indiana (156 points) and Eastern Michigan (104 points).
Leading the list of Illini performances was freshman pole vaulter Angela Hilgers. Hilgers finished second with a vault of 12 feet, 5-1/2 inches, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and a new Illinois school record. The mark is also a new personal best for Hilgers, bettering her vault of 12 feet, 4-1/2 inches from the indoor season.
The lone event winner for the women was junior Camee' Williams, who claimed victory in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 5-1/4 inches. Fellow junior Adeoti Oshinowo placed second in the discus after recording a new personal best throw of 157 feet, 5 inches.
The Illini had multiple second place finishes in addition to Hilgers and Oshinowo. Sophomore Crystal Riley placed second in both the 100 meter hurdles (13.97 seconds) and the long jump (19 feet, 1-1/4 inches). Sophomore Audrea Wall was runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 113 feet, 1 inch, and the Illinois 4x400 meter relay team ran 3:52.33 to finish second behind Eastern Michigan.
In other women's action, two Illini athletes competed at the Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Relays in Walnut, California. Senior Tara Mendozza placed fifth in the competitive 3,000 meter run field, running 9:43.91. It was the first 3,000 meter race of Mendozza's career. Also at Mt. SAC, sophomore Amber Hunt finished 23rd in the 5,000 meter run, clocking a new personal best time of 17:01.00.
The Illini women return to the track on Tuesday, April 24 as they host the Midweek Twilight at the UI Outdoor Track & Field Stadium. Field events begin at 2 p.m. with running events beginning at 5 p.m.
