Illini Newcomers: Expect to see at least four new faces on the floor for Illinois this season. Incoming freshmen are guard Luther Head (Chicago, Ill./Manley High School) and forward Roger Powell (Joliet, Ill./High). Both earned first-team all-state honors as seniors. Forward Blandon Ferguson transferred from the College of Southern Idaho following a strong junior college career. Nick Smith will make his debut after redshirting as a true freshman last year. And, at the beginning of the spring 2002 semester, junior Nick Huge regains his eligibility after transferring from Appalachian State last year. Huge is not on scholarship and does not count toward the limit of 13 scholarship players.
Las Vegas Invitational: Illinois will play in the Las Vegas Invitational in November. The Illini open pool play by taking on Eastern Illinois in Champaign before traveling west to play Penn and Georgia Tech at Valley High School in Las Vegas. The final game on Nov. 25 will matchup with either Iowa State, St. Louis, Southwest Missouri State or Hartford depending on the standings in both pools.
