BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Illini shot a 329 today, 18 strokes better than the 347 they shot Saturday, to take 11th place in the 15-team Indiana Invitational. Illinois was tied with Northern Illinois for 13th place after the opening round of the tournament. The event, which is held at the 74-par, 6,134 yard Indiana University Golf Course, was scheduled to have three rounds, but it was shortened to two rounds because of the weather.

Freshmen continued to lead the Illinois squad. Renata Young paced the Illini. She shot an 82 today to tie for 30th with a three-round total of 166 strokes. Two other freshmen, Stephanie Cheney and Laurin Kanda, tied for 33rd place. Cheney shot a 79 today to finish with 167. Kanda shot an 82 to finish with 167 also.

The Illinois women's golf team will host the annual Illini Classic next Saturday and Sunday, April 15-16, at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana. The event is slated to begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start both days.
