Illini Fall To #6 Wisconsin In Straight Games

Champaign, Ill. - The Fighting Illini were upended by an impressive performance by Wisconsin Saturday night, falling in three games to the sixth-ranked Badgers 13-15, 9-15, 4-15 in front of 1,326 fans at Huff Hall. The Illini now stand at 11-10 overall and 2-8 in the Big Ten, with the 20 match, round-robin conference schedule now half way complete. The Badgers improve to 19-2 on the season and are tied for first in the Big Ten with a 9-1 conference record.

The Illini fought hard in game one, matching Wisconsin point-for-point until the Badgers managed to edge out a win on a solid defensive block by middle blocker Sherisa Livingston. Wisconsin broke open the second game with a 7-3 lead responded to an Illini rally with four straight points to tally the win, and carried the momentum into game three to close out the night.

Sophomore outside hitter Anne Koester led the Illini attack, as the right side hitter put up an impressive .476 hitting percentage, on a team high 12 kills with only two errors in 21 swings. Junior left side hitter Shadia Haddad was also in double figures with 11 kills, and had a double double with a team high 12 digs. The Illini as a team hit .228, the second highest attack percentage the Badgers have allowed this season.

Livingston and senior Jenny Maastricht led the Badgers, combining for 34 kills, highlighted by Livingston's .407 attack percentage.

Illinois has two more matches left next week on its current home stand. The Illini next take on Purdue, Wednesday night, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at Huff Hall.
