CHAMPAIGN, Ill - Fighting Illini swimming and diving found the road unkind on Saturday, losing to Notre Dame 183.5-116.5 in South Bend, Ind.
Illinois, now 6-4 on the year, took home two victories while recording 10 second-place finishes. Senior Emily Wang led the Illini with a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.45 and helped the 400 free relay team of fellow seniors Traci Bollinger, Marcie Black and Betsy Nagel to victory, in 3:31.09. Wang also placed second in the 50 and 100 free with times of 24.02 and 52.28, respectively. Junior Anna Christiansen recorded second-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:22.10) and 200 IM (2:10.39).
'The score is deceiving because it was a real competitive meet,' Head Coach Jim Lutz said. 'I'm much happier with the way we performed today than the last time out, and it's a good indicator of where we need to be.'
In diving, junior Jessica Ohr took fifth in the one meter with 205.87 points and in the three meters with 224.54.
Illinois is back in action Jan. 28-29 at the Big Ten Quad in Minneapolis, Minn.
