
Nine Illini Wrestlers Ranked In Intermat's Top 20

CHAMPAGN, Ill. - Nine University of Illinois wrestlers are ranked among the top 20 of their respective weight classes in the latest Intermat NCAA Division I College Wrestling Poll. The Illini are represented in nine of the 10 weight classes and have four wrestlers ranked in the top five.
Adam Tirapelle (19-1) leads the charge with a No. 2 ranking at 149 pounds. He is joined in the top five by Nate Patrick (184, 4th, 19-2), Pat Quirk (197, 5th, 16-3) and John Lockhart (Heavyweight, 5th, 16-2). Other Illini in the rankings include Ryan Escobar (125, 8th, 15-6), David Stoltz (133, 18th, 11-6), Carl Perry (141, 7th, 8-2), Griff Powell (157, 8th, 14-3) and Bill Zeman (165, 13th, 15-6).
The Illini are ranked sixth as a team and are currently 3-0 with second-place finishes at the Las Vegas Invitational and Midlands in Evanston, Ill.
The Illini will resume action January 13 travelling to Air Force and for a dual then will travel to Fresno State January 16. The Big Ten dual season will open on the road at Indiana on January 21 and Ohio State January 23. The next home action for the Fighting Illini will be January 28 against No. 7 Michigan and the following weekend against No. 20 Wisconsin February 4 and No. 10 Michigan State February 6.
