March 29, 1999

Big Ten Freshman of the Year Cory Bradford earned yet another award when he was named to the Basketball News All-Freshman second team.

Bradford led the Illini team with a 15.4 scoring average, 15.6 in Big Ten games. He averaged 18.8 points in four Big Ten Tournament games. Bradford broke the school record for three-pointers made in a season with his 85 treys in 1998-99. His 205 attempts are second in the Illini record book. The freshman hit a three-pointer in every game this year, a first by an Illini player.

He became the all-time leading freshman scorer in Illinois history with his 12th point against Indiana in the Big ten Tournament. He scored 494 points this year which passed Illini all-time leading career scorer Deon Thomas, who had 452 in 1990-91.

Bradford joins an impressive list of the nation's top freshmen on the Basketball News All-Freshman squad. The second team also includes Duke's Corey Maggette, UCLA's JaRon Rush, North Carolina's Kris Lang and Virginia's Chris Williams.

The first team is comprised of DePaul's Quentin Richardson, Notre Dame's Troy Murphy, Arizona's Michael Wright, St. John's Erick Barkley and Florida's Mike Miller.
