The busy summer for the Illini in the pros continues as several former players will continue their tournament schedules this weekend. D.A. Points is in the field at the PGA TOUR's Quicken Loans National, while Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry are playing in the European Tour's HNA Open de France. Scott Langley and Luke Guthrie are taking part in the Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation, and head coach Mike Small will compete in the U.S. Senior Open Championship.
Last weekend, several Illini saw success in the professional ranks as Thomas Detry brought home a runner-up finish at the BMW International Open. Detry closed the tournament 16-under par and just one shot out of the lead as he tied with Sergio Garcia and Richard Bland.
On this side of the pond, Steve Stricker earned a third-place finish at the American Family Insurance Championship, while Small also placed among the top 20 individuals. Small had an even busier week as he tied for third at the 2017 PGA Professional Championship on June 21 before heading to Madison for the PGA TOUR Champions event.
Four Illini competed close to home in the Lincoln Land Charity Championship as Scott Langley (T-11) was joined by Charlie Danielson, Dylan Meyer, and Luke Guthrie in the Web.com Tour event in Springfield. Alum Brian Campbell also took part in the PGA TOUR's Travelers Championship.
