Final Results

Sugar Grove, Ill. – Fighting Illini Men's Golf started off the fall season on a high note on Sunday, taking home the Northern Intercollegiate title with a 27-stroke lead. All six Illini finished among the top-16 competitors, individually, as well. Pudue (+20) and UCLA (+22) joined the Illini among the top three in the tournament. .
After being cut short due to darkness on Saturday evening (Sept. 12), the second round of play at the Northern Intercollegiate resumed Sunday morning (Sept. 13), and the Fighting Illini continued their dominant play despite battling windy conditions. Illinois finished with a team total 15-under par in the second round, setting a new course record at Rich Harvest Farms. The previous team low-18 (279) was set by Houston in 2013.
Sophomore Dylan Meyer led the Illini through the third round of play, he shot a team-best 2-under par on the day to take second place overall. Meyer tallied four birdies in total, helping to negate the two bogeys in the round.
After a 6-under par finish to the second round, senior Thomas Detry tallied a score 3-over par in round three. Detry recorded a birdie on the sixth hole, but it wasn't enough to make up for his two early bogeys in round three. Detry finished 1-under par for the tournament to earn a third place finish.
Also earning a third place finish, senior Charlie Danielson shot 1-under par for the tournament. Danielson finished 3-under par in the second round of play and followed up with a score at even par in the third round. Danielson started the final round with a double bogey, but quickly made that up with back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes. He finished the front nine 1-under par, but used two late birdies to make up for a bogey and a double bogey early on the back nine holes.
Sophomore Nick Hardy joined his teammates among the top-10, tying for ninth overall. Hardy shot 4-over par in his final round of the day. He notched an eagle on the 17th hole, which marked the fourth eagle for the Illini in the tournament. As a team, Illinois led the tournament with four eagles and 57 birdies through three rounds.
Redshirt senior Alex Burge finished 13th overall in the tournament, he tallied a score 5-over par in his first outing of the season. Burge shot 3-over par in the final round of play, contributing four birdies to Illinois' team total. Â
Playing as an individual, freshman Edoardo Lipparelli earned a top-20 finish in his first-ever collegiate tournament. The Ronciglione, Italy, native shot 7-over par to tie for 16th overall. His best performance came in the second round as he finished 3-under par in total. Lipparelli and the Illini battled windy conditions on Sunday, but it didn't stop them. He tallied four birdies in the final round, which helped him to a 1-over par third-round tally.
The 54-hole tournament was held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., which boasts a 7,151-yard, Par 72 course. Illinois was joined in the tournament field by No. 7 UCLA, No. 24 Virginia, Ball State, Houston, Indiana, Lousiville, Marquette, New Mexico State, Purdue, Toledo, UCF and Winthrop.
